Ordinary Meeting Prizes
Awarded at the Society’s Autumn and Spring meetings, i.e., twice a year:
- North of England Short Paper Prize – For the highest scoring podium presentation (Value £250)
- North of England Otolaryngology Society Poster Prize -For the highest scoring poster presentation (Value £100)
- Charles Diamond Medical Student Prize – For the highest scoring presentation (oral or poster) with a medical student as presenting author (this is not awarded if a medical student wins a main prize) (Value £50)
Eligibility and requirements
All medical students in the North of England, and doctors practising in ENT in the North of England below the level of consultant, are eligible to submit abstracts for consideration. Abstract deadlines will be advertised ahead of each meeting, and submission is via the North of England Otolaryngology Society website.

The George Seed Prize
The prestigious George Seed Prize is awarded annually for the best unpublished piece of research in ENT in the North of England. The value of the award is £1000, and the recipient will present their work at the NoE ENT Meeting.
The award is made solely at the discretion of the North of England Otolaryngology Society Council. The work must be of higher degree standard, and the Prize will not be awarded if there are no submissions deemed to be of a sufficiently high standard.
Eligibility
All medical students in the North of England, and doctors practising in ENT in the North of England below the level of consultant, are eligible to submit their work for consideration.
Requirements
- Submissions for the George Seed Prize is now Open. The Deadline for submission for the Autumn 2026 meeting is Monday 31st August 17:00
- All submissions must be written as an Original Article following the Clinical Otolaryngology guidelines for authors.
- Submissions should be emailed to noeent@outlook.com as a PDF file titled ‘George Seed 2026 – [name of author]’
- Please use ‘George Seed Prize submission 2026’ as the subject of your email. In your covering email, please detail your current post, and confirm that your work has not been published or submitted for publication to any journal.
- Please attach an up-to-date CV in PDF format, with your submission.
Medical student elective prize
The North of England Otolaryngology Society are delighted to offer a medical student elective prize. The elective should be ENT related. The value of the prize is £500, and the recipient will be required to deliver a presentation at a meeting of the Society, about their experience.
Eligibility
All medical students studying in the North of England are eligible.
Requirements
- Submissions are now closed.
- An outline proposal of no more than one single sided A4 page should be submitted using the following headings:
- Dates of elective
- Destination of elective
- Supervisor of elective
- Aims of elective
- What will the funding be used for?
- Submissions should be emailed to noeent@outlook.com as a PDF file titled ‘Elective prize 2026 – [name of student]’
- Please attach an up-to-date CV in PDF format, with your submission, and a letter of support from your named elective supervisor.
- Please use ‘Elective prize 2026’ as the subject of your email. In your covering email, please detail your year of study, and your engagement to date with the North of England Otolaryngology Society.
Travelling Scholarships
The North of England Otolaryngology Society is offering a travelling scholarship in 2026. The value of the scholarship is £500, and the recipient will each be required to deliver a presentation at a meeting of the Society, about their experience.
The scholarship will be available for:
–An international visit for educational purposes (not a conference)
Eligibility
ENT doctors of all grades (including consultants) working in the North of England are eligible.
Requirements
- Submissions for the Travelling Scholarship are now open The Deadline for submission for the Autumn 2026 meeting is Monday 31st August 17:00
- An outline proposal of no more than one single sided A4 page should be submitted using the following headings:
- Previous involvement with NOE
- Dates of travel
- Destination of travel
- Name of supervisor at destination
- Aims and objectives of visit
- What will the funding be used for?

- Please attach an up-to-date CV in PDF format, with your submission, and a letter of support from the supervisor at your travel destination.
